IFC will distribute Fish Tank in the US

Dammit. According to Screendaily IFC will distribute this English kitchen sink drama that will already have difficulty finding a mature US audience in the first place to deal with it. Allow me to remind FF readers how IFC fucked up in "distributing" Hunger last year and made a half-arsed effort to show it in LA in December while those very important Academy people were busy watching other movies that were being properly promoted/pimped. Haven't they learned from their fuck ups? Obviously not. I'm not the only one who feels that IFC dropped the ball last year.

So, instead of being pleased that Fish Tank got a US distributor, I'm bummed out and bitter that IFC is probably going to do to Fish Tank what it did to Hunger. And why do I think so? Look at the economy, it's fucked, just ask me. Everyone and everything is cutting back. IFC has always had a tight wallet in the first place, and nowadays, it's even tighter.

Look, I appreciate IFC picking up Fish Tank and giving it much deserved distribution rights. This is a bold film, and it takes balls to embrace it and give it a platform to be viewed here in teh States. But they got to distribute it properly, give it the respect it deserves.

I am goign to hold out a little hope that they do a good job! lol But it makes it even more imperative that I go to TIFF to see it.

Tina, I had a dream/nightmare that Fish Tank will screen on Wednesday, Sept 16th.

Just our luck.

Thats not a dream thats a nightmare! You know I just looked up today how much it owuld cost for me to take the train to Toronto from Philly. The cost was half the price of flying but it took 14.5 hrs!

Flying to Toronto would be overkill from Detroit as it's so dang easy to just drive there in 5 hours for less than $25 (tank of gas). But I wish I could afford this time to take the train as it's easy and so comfy.

I just learned the other day of a fly in the tiff ointment. Viggo's 'The Road' will be playing at tiff this year and I have been waiting for this movie for a year. It's been delayed as it was suppose to be released in November 2008. I read the book last summer in 3 days. Riveting and depressing as all hell, but brilliant. I know the movie is going to kick ass as John Hillcoat 'The Proposition' is the director.

So, I hope the tiff Gods do not have Fish Tank and The Road screening at the same time, cuz I'm going to have to drop one of the boys in favor of another...

guess which one?

:p

lololol.....Well i know which one I would drop!

It will hurt terribly to drop Viggo like a hot potato, but chances are much better to see The Road at a local theater than to possibly wait and hope and PRAY to see Fish Tank here in Ann Arbor. I only just saw Hunger in March!

Hey, you can't blame me for my dilemma though. :)
