People are really noticing Michael

As the BIFA nominations were released on Monday, confirming what a fantastic film Fish Tank is and how good Michael is in it, a lot of people on the Oscar boards and blogs I visit have all said great things about Fish Tank and Michael. Now unlike this time last year when I was rabid in supporting Michael in being honored for his work in 'Hunger', I'm going to lay low this year. I do believe that Michael deserves being nominated for Fish Tank, but this year is particularly strong for other actors and I'm bracing myself for him to be all but ignored when the American award prize nominations come out. Heck, I still don't know when Fish Tank will be released here in the states for it to even qualify to be considered for award/Oscar nominations. But since IFC is the distributor of FT like it was for Hunger... well, need I travel down that rant road again? We know how they dealt with Hunger, so, I'm just not going to go there.

I'm aiming to have the first newsletter come out on Thursday or early Friday, so thanks to all of you who have signed up to receive it. This coming weekend is going to be a Fassy Watch moment as Michael will be on the jury for the Kerry Film Festival. I do not know if he will be in attendance, or if his responsibilities will allow him to perform them remotely, but it will be interesting to read reports about what he does there.

And this hot picture I found today brings to mind some news a friend told me about the other day. She informed me that here in the US, the government has banned flavored tobacco (like clove, cherry, vanilla-flavored cigarettes, etc.) because they lure kids to smoking. WTF? This smells like Tobacco Lobbyist bullshit to me. Those greedy black lung bastards just want to protect their profits and they want to squeeze out mom and pop operations of flavored tobacco. Um, why doesn't the government just ban smoking period? It's a nasty, pointless vice that kills people. But I digress.

What I wanted to snark about is that Michael's photo above could be used by health care lobbyist to prevent women from smoking because Michael's too god damn sexy and he romanticizes smoking and he could be the gateway to people starting to smoke.

Basically what I'm saying and joking about is that because Michael is photographed smoking often, I don't mind it so much because it's HIM, and he looks good with that nasty thing in his hand or mouth. He makes smoking hot... if just for a moment. ;)

I agree with you. It's something about the way he holds the sigarett that makes it look sooo sexy.

About Fish Thank, i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that it will have it's USA premiere 15. january 2010. If so it will not be up for any of the american prizes.

I'm looking forward to the first newsletter. You are doing a good job with this site.
