It's a Shame that Michael Fassbender is NOT coming to Toronto

Reporting from TIFF, and coming back to my friend's house after a long day of movies and doing some Pearl Jam business, I log on to check emails to learn that due to unknown circumstances, Michael Fassbender cannot attend TIFF.

While I am shocked and surprised, I just hope he's ok and that nothing very serious has occurred to have prevented him from coming to Toronto. His name has been dropped big time here at TIFF, even when I saw Andrea Arnold's 'Wuthering Heights' this evening, TIFF co-chair, Cameron Bailey mentioned what a huge star Michael is now, and how 'Fish Tank' was one of his big breaks. Also, as many of you know, I was trying to get an interview with Michael at TIFF. I knew it was a long, long shot (basically, my chances of going to the moon were better), so when I got word this morning that due to Michael's constantly changing and hectic schedule, they were unfortunately not able to commit to the interview. I got that message around 11am EST. And to learn that around 6pm EST it was announced he would not be coming at all, is a shock, but without being selfish, I just hope he's ok and just doing what he needs to do.

In other news, it has been announced that Fox-Searchlight has bought Shame, so it is only a matter of time when Shame will get it's US theatrical release. I have a strong feeling that Michael will win Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, and that he may make it to New York for the NYFF. Meanwhile, as a true TIFFer, I'm going to keep on keeping on with TIFF as I have 14 other films and a PJ concert to view. I will still watch Fassy's two films with great enthusiasm and I may even try to ask a question if there is a Q&A for Shame.

If you're just going to TIFF JUST for Michael, you're out of luck.  This is a brilliant film festival for true cinephiles to see multiple films. He's not going to make it this year, but we'll see him there again one day.

We here at Fassinating Fassbender hope Michael is ok, he will surely be missed by all those who have tickets to see his two movies.

I got a feeling that he's going to be awarded today in Venice, too. Either that, either Shame (Dangerous Method?!) will be the best movie. And now I am sorry for not being in Venice, I'm only 600 km away!

The only reason I could think of is he is going to be awarded as Best Actor in Venice. I don't wanna anything bad happened to him. As a professional and a hard-working actor, he won't just cancel the trip, unless this, especially fox searchlight has already brought Shame, they also need him to be in Venice for the award if he gets it. That's a huge promotion for the film as well.

I'm glad that you will continue enjoying the film. I'm going to NYFF so hopefully like you said, he will be NYC. Finger crossed.

Well, he was okay a couple of days ago when GQ interviewed him in Soho.

Well, Simone, there's a good reason why Michael did not show up for TIFF. He's collecting his best actor prize in Venice. LOL, he's more than okay. He was literally on stand by because the buzz in Venice was so strong for "Shame", and the fact that it got picked up by Fox Searchlight as the North American distributor means he and McQueen didn't have to hustle in Toronto. This is big for a small and very difficult film like "Shame". I'm thrilled.
