The British Independent Film Awards!

Update: Michael Fassbender won as Best Actor for 'Shame'! Congratulations Michael!

I wonder if he'll share that bottle of Champagne. Congrats Michael!
Tonight, the Moet British Independent Film Awards ceremony will take place in London, and Shame is up for 7 BIFAs, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Supporting Actress. I'm confident that the film will win many if not nearly all of it's nominations. A strong showing here for Michael will cement his chances for receiving more honors in the coming days/weeks/month for his role as Brandon.

To watch the live broadcast of BIFA, go to this link at LOVEFiLM.com.

(edited to add 3pm EST) Looks like the show is just starting now, so go to the live stream!

Michael is already there. Let's root him on. I will be in and out of the chat room (only 10 at a time in the chat room), and posting in the comment section. Let's have fun!

And since Shame opened in 10 theaters on Friday (including Toronto), on the first day, it earned approximately $110,476 on Friday alone. That is incredible! I know we are used to hearing about blockbusters earning $70 million + on its first weekend, but they are rated R and above, and playing at 3000+ theaters. Shame is NC17 and playing at 10 theaters! And I just read at Awards Daily that a theater in NYC has added extra screenings at its theater to accommodate the demand to see it. So, more select screens now = more money = more theaters throughout the country soon.

The NC-17 rated film - which stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan - grossed $361,181 over the weekend, averaging $36,118. That's the third best limited debut ever for a NC-17 rated film, following Pedro Almodovar's "Bad Education" and Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution." Source: Indie Wire
Watch this thread throughout the day with updates about BIFA. Please feel free to post comments here, and if you want to play in the FF chat room that I just created. This live chat room will be a test run for the Golden Globes, SAG, and Oscar telecasts in support of Michael and Shame. If there's an interest in it, we'll do this for special Fassy events. I'll try to poke my head in there - I have so much reading to do for a research project!

Stay tuned...

I think Shame will pick up the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress honours and MAYBE Best Director. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I've been playing this guessing game for the last 3 BIFAs and so far I've nailed them all, so let's hope my luck doesn't run out tonight. I've probably just jinxed it lol.

Fina-fucking-lly! He deserved a straight up award, no "best newcomer" or "spotlight" award, just a statement, saying he is THE best of the year. Which he most certainly is. Now, I just hope what I said applies to the everything else down the road, and onto the Oscars!

Have you seen this? Michael got nominated for Best Actor (for his role in Shame). They posted the winners, but unfortunately he lost out to Clooney (lame). Still great to be nominated though!
