What Michael thinks of the Oscar talk

And then there is the awards season, and what will be will be.

"To be honest with you, I'd be lying if I said the prospect of being number one among the company I'm in doesn't excite me. I will also say that I can't sit around going 'what is the possibility of an Oscar?' Then it's a little bit like Gollum and Precious. And the prospect of awards for the film is a big deal, especially for a film like this. It gives a validation to the subject matter which other people might be deterred from because they think it is something else. To be in the position that I'm in now is the highest that I could possibly hope to achieve."  - Michael Fassbender

Honest, smart and insightful as always. Michael is so damn quotable. Reference to Tolkein is great. Being obsessed with recognition and shiny things like award statues have it's dark side. Yet I love that Michael is interested in the award not for himself, but for the film and the difficult subject matter.

Well, he is "number one among the company he's in" regardless of an Oscar.

I too love this quote, it shows that he knows it's all a game, just like you believe MLM, and just like how I know. I'm glad he has this healthy and sane outlook on it all. And yes, it is a validation of sorts for the entire project to have it recognized in some form by AMPAS.

If it's meant to be, it will be.
