Well, the Oscars are this Sunday and I ain't gonna watch it. And you know what, I feel good about my maturing during this saga... my thoughts have significantly and permanently been changed about the Oscars, and I ironically thank them for it. I haven't been to Gold Derby or Awards Daily since nomination day... I just distanced myself from all the Oscar talk to focus on my life and school studies, Fassinating Fassbender, and the little project we have going on right now. I'm not going to diss the Oscars again, but what I want to do is encourage those of you who feel as strongly as I do about the situation, to do something else Sunday night instead of watching the show.
Watch a Michael Fassbender movie, preferably, Shame, if you are able to. If not, watch any of his 2011 films, and movies prior to that year. Just make it a Fassy Movie day! If you want to explore other films that were not nominated, that would be an excellent thing to do as well. I especially encourage you to check out Drive, starring another hot, talented young man, Ryan Gosling, which along with Martha Marcy May Marlene were my number 3 and 4 films, respectively, that I liked from TIFF (The Artist and Shame were the top two). I desperately want to see Tilda Swinton in 'We Need to Talk About Kevin'. Really, there are dozens upon dozens of films that are so wonderful that have not been nominated for Oscars that deserve our attention. Do some research on your own and find your own entertainment gem to watch on Sunday, instead of the show.
I don't know what Michael will be doing this weekend, but I'm 99.95% sure he has more important things to do than be a part of any Oscar parties and events. He has pre-production work to do on at least two high profile films that will be monopolizing his time this spring and summer. Now more than ever, I'm proud to be a Michael Fassbender fan!
