Michael and Ridley and the Your Film Festival

How will the death of Ridley's brother, Tony Scott, affect Ridley and Michael's participation in the upcoming Your Film Festival on September 2nd at the 69th Venice Film Festival (Aug 29-Sept 8)? According to the press page at the festival's website, ten finalist's short films have been selected to be viewed by a jury panel that Michael and Ridley will be a part of, to win a prize of $500,000 to create an original film where Michael and Ridley will produce via Scott Free Films (which Tony was an integral part of). Sounds like an incredible opportunity for an upcoming film maker, but will Ridley be in shape to participate? And with the filming of The Counselor delayed while he mourns in Los Angeles, it just give us pause to consider the domino effect of this tragic event.

On another note, it has been reported that some subhuman filmed Tony's suicide and is eagerly trying to sell the video to the media. Firstly, I find it incredibly disgusting and insensitive in this society that people use their mobile technology for such morbid reasons. What kind of world do we live in where someone, anywhere, is literally at the ready to film something horrific with the intentions of financially profiting off of it? If this video is sold, there are controversial websites that make money off presenting images and video of people dying or in death. Yes, these type of people live amongst us, and I'm not going to name the websites. I've heard about them, but don't have the stomach to visit such places. People forget that the people depicted in these images have family and friends who love them, and it is ghastly to think that there are people out there who take joy in sitting at their computer/laptop/iPad, deliberately finding entertainment in looking at macabre websites such as these. Knowing such crap exist just prolongs the pain for the survivors of high profile persons who die under tragic circumstances. Tony left underage twin boys with their mother, they do not need to come across such a video one day, even by mistake. But because it exist, they may accidentally see it, and that's just a horrible thing to think about.

Of course I share your feelings about the videos and photos of Tony's death...It's disgusting.
I hope Ridley will go to Venice, even though everyone would understand if he didn't. Maybe he will entrust Michael with the responsibility for the jury of the Your Film Festival...

I don't really know how it will affect the festival. People are just really sick sometimes, well more like alot. I just saw some of the finalist for the film festival and it will tough to judge. But overall I think that whatever the outcome, the effect of Tony's death will be felt ten fold. Brothers together who are really good filmmaker, Man on Fire was the bomb! Ridley and Tony loved films and I am very sorry for the Scott Family.

The thing about show business. Even in the midst of tremendous tragedy and lost.I am a fan of old movies and I think about something late great Ethel Merman sang in There's No Business Like Show Business.

"There's no business like show business. Like no business I know. You get word before the show has started. That your favourite uncle died at dawn. And top of that, your pa and ma have parted. You're broken-hearted, but you go on".

I share this not to make light of this situation but to impart the resiliency of those involved. I feel Michael may take a central role in this festival. I see a long time collaboration between Ridley and Michael. Equal to what Tony Scott had with Denzel. Both Scott brothers have an eye for those who can get the job done.
