Thank God Michael Didn't Get This Role

Remember when Michael was one of the top three actors being sought out to be in the remake of Total Recall, and it was him and, Colin Farrell as the two Irish actors who would star? Well, thankfully the makers didn't want Michael, and settled for Colin, and look what they have, a Total Redud, coming in 2nd place at the box office, allowing The Dark Knight Rises to have it's third week on top (my review). Not only is the movie horrendous, but there's nothing new and exciting from the 1990 remake, and the box office is in a slump as the Olympics are in high gear. This is one role we can be happy that Michael didn't get. Colin should stick to indie films where he uses his sexy Irish accent.

In otherwise quiet Fassy news, I'm sure by now you all heard that it has been confirmed that there will be a Prometheus 2 which will continue on where Prometheus left off with the remaining 1 1/2 survivors, Elizabeth and David. I hope that for the sake of jokes about the film, that somehow, with David's instructions, Dr. Shaw can reattach David's head. How can she track down and quiz the shit out of the Engineers and be taken seriously by carrying David's head around in a bag? I'm sure they'll figure something out, they got two years to make this. Oh, and speaking of Prometheus, yesterday I went to the bookstore to look at the August W issue firsthand, and let me just say, I wasn't impressed enough with the photo shoot design to buy the magazine. Sure, Fassy's on the cover, but all this deep blue disco glow vibe just didn't excite me.

Charlize looked unrecognizable, Michael and his beauty was all but hidden. The entire photo shoot was just a complete failure to me, and that's no fault of Michael or Charlize, they just followed the directions of the photographer. You have to be a poor photographer and photo shoot editor/director to take two of the most attractive people on the planet and give them the appeal of half cooked oatmeal. Next time W wants to use Michael with a female co-star, use the photographer and borrow the lights used in the photo shoot with Mia in promoting Jane Eyre a year ago. Sheesh! Also, the book store did not have the Irish American issue, I would have bought it, but since I will have to endeavor to look for it, this too I shall pass up, especially in light of the fact that the "interview" features significantly recycled answers, why bother really? So those are two different magazine covers of Michael that I'm going to take a pass on this month.

Meanwhile, Michael is currently filming Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor' in London. For a film that is based in the US along the Mexican border, I'm wondering at what point and time are they actually coming to the States to film convincing outside scenes which will look like the Southwest in the States.

I bought the W magazine but I don't like this photoshoot at all. It's just for my collection :D
Scott said he was going to shoot The Counselor in Alicante, Spain in mid September but this location doesn't appear on the IMdB page...

^ hey, your id is kinda funky, hope you can fix it. :)

But I agree, I did like the Arnold version, it was cheeky and is a cult favorite, so I knew the remake was not going to be special. And yes, Michael's name was mentioned heavily when the casting was being announced.

Jeremy Renner as Jason Bourne is going to be incredible. He's a two time Oscar nominee, so he'll bring a fresh new energy to the franchise.

Hey it's Jud (I'm back, I found a solution ;)

As far as "Total Recall" is concerned it is not yet out in France. But as some of you may know now, I'm a Sci-Fi scholar and fan (sort of). Totall Recall is the adaptation of Philip K. Dick's short story We Can Remember it For You Wholesale (yes he likes complicated titles; "Blade Runner" was an adaptation of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"). The short story is a marvelous critic of western societies and human's taste for immortality and altered/improved minds. If you read the book, you can't deny that the Schwarzy adaptation was really bad and far far away from the book. As such, having seen only the trailer, it seems that they came closer to the book in this version. But of course, the story bears so much "read between the lines" that it is hard to come close to it. So maybe the movie was not good , but at least they came closer to K. Dick's vision which was totally absent from the 1st adaptation. And besides, we are always disappointed by book's adaptation, as there's always "something" missing (I was a bit by 'Blade Runner'). Regarding the movie at least they tried and I'd just finish by giving my advice: read We Can Remember It For You Wholesale and K.Dick in general, he was a visionary and avant-gardist man.

^Aha, glad you got that fixed!

And thanks for the sci-fi book history. I have read on film review sites that the Farrell version is closer to the book, so for that, I will check it out on DVD, but I ain't taking my last few bucks to go see this in the theater. Thanks!

Just one thing, Jeremy Renner is not Jason Bourne, he is a new agent called Aaron Cross.

I also didn't know that Michael was in the running for Total Recall. I didn't get to see it as I'd planned, but now I'm thinking maybe that wasn't such a bad thing ;)

I’m not a Total Recall OR a Colin Ferrell fan, so I’m definitely in agreement with everyone else that Michael isn’t a part of it. He’s going to be so busy for awhile with all the current projects he’s got going plus the upcoming sequels to several of his films. I don’t think we’ll have any lack of Fassy flicks to enjoy, despite him not being a part of this one.
