TGIF 1025

This lovely image is from the LA Times article on Michael Fassbender yesterday. Very, very lovely indeed. He's probably thinking about why some critics aren't liking The Counselor. Boo! Well, forget them, but I'm sure I'll like the movie, and I hope you guys enjoy it too! Meanwhile, I want to bring to your attention an absolutely remarkable, enlightening, historical essay film review of 12 Years a Slave by Wesley Morris, the 2012 Pulitzer Prize winning criticism writer for The Boston Globe.

If Mr. Morris' essay does not move you to run and see 12 Years, and if his essay does not all but guarantee with 100% certainty that TYAS is the film that will win the Best Picture Oscar, I don't know what will. I've never been so moved by a review like this ever before... and probably never will again.

TGiFassy to those of you in parts of the country that have one or both Michael Fassbender films to watch this weekend! I got my box of Junior Mints all set for my Saturday showing of The Counselor!

This is a great piece Simone. Thanks for sharing. Later this afternoon I will see The Counselor. So much negativity already about it. Oh well, I will enjoy seeing Michael's face in any case. Happy Friday Fassinators!

I suggest you post excerpts from critics and audience who have very positive reviews of The Counselor. It's quite mind-boggling that the movie received disparate ratings. Some critics gave it 100! But, the majority still want "feel good" or "happy ending" movies. What were the critics and audience looking for? Or, they just joined the band wagon of negative raters? It is a great and well-acted movie after all!

Have a nice weekend everyone!!! The Counselor is opening next week in my city!!! can't wait! by the way last week one of my colleagues, who is not well aware of my cinematic obssessions, was like, "heeey, why don't we go and see The Counselor? I heard some hot Irish guy is starring in it!". And I was like "ohhh, you have no idea!!!!))))))))))))"

I like your attitude Hodgepodge Shop, and you're right. Critics can make or break a film with their negativity and high/different expectations. So far in the FF poll, the majority of those who have seen it, liked it or thought it was a masterpiece. I'll know myself soon enough.

I'll give my full review later today or tomorrow, and I'll look for positive reviews.

Thanks,

Very moving essay...I'm counting the hours till monday when I can see TYAS. It's a pre-screening for The Netherlands and because it's a special event I bought myself a new outfit including some heels to celebrate the third McQueen|Fassbender film! I'm a bit nervous because Hunger and Shame has such a huge impact on me.
And the criticism on The Counselor....imo some bad reviews are a complent (if you know what I mean)
