TGIF 9.8.17

Michael Fassbender at TIFF 2012.

I went home to Michigan for Labor Day weekend, and I was so busy spending time with family and friends that I did not monitor any news about Michael Fassbender. So you can only imagine my surprise when I read the news on Tuesday morning that Michael is going to marry Alicia. The details about the future nuptials were so outrageous and unbelievable that all I could do was laugh. The people behind this rumor jumped the shark, said, 'fuck it!', and went 'full retard". I believe in an attempt to create more good will PR for Alicia, in light of one of her movies getting poor reviews, and to support her at TIFF this week, someone went full retard and pulled out of the air, this fairy tale about them getting married next month.

As a few of you know, I'm closely following the story of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. I think their story is lovely and in these times of turmoil, a good real life, REAL love story is something that people can legitimately support and send them well wishes. So I do understand the feelings of those set of fans whose sanity and will to live is dependent on Michael and Alicia getting married, starring in more movies together, having 2 kids, and raising orphaned Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, together, 4evah! Gorgeous celebrity people in love is sexy and awesome, and it's fun to support them. But I fear that the PR on Alicia's side went too far by fabricating gossip about an upcoming marriage between these two. An important step was missed here: The engagement ring. A bright, shiny, Harry Winston diamond platinum engagement ring photo to show off on the cover of People magazine. Someone failed basic PR 101 'How to create believable engagement/wedding rumors'. Or, they could have bought an engagement ring from Avon (I sell Avon btw), and Alicia could have worn it at TIFF just to start up rumors. Simples. But no, they went full retard without receipts. Never go full retard with a rumor if it can't pass the believability test, especially when an important step to support the validity of said rumor was ignored. Engagement ring first. Then the extravagant wedding plans leaked later. Duh!

Alas, soon we should be reading articles clarifying that it's just crazy rumors and that Michael and Alicia are enjoying their loving relationship as it is. And also, they're both too busy and committed to their careers to get married now.

Normally, I would be in Toronto attending TIFF, but this year I'm not. For the first time since 2004, I feel bad missing out on the action there, but I'll be there again next year. And as a homage to TIFF, the film festival that has nourished my Fassinating fixation on Michael, this week's TGIF photo is from TIFF when he was there to support 12 Years a Slave.
